Lesson 5

Under the "Title List" in GVRL I chose "Colonial America", and was quite impressed with the information available. There was a timeline, research and activity ideas, and lots of related subjects and links to other articles. I also liked that you could download to an eReader or MP3 (but I would have trouble listening to that voice for too long!) This information would be great for older students, teachers, and anyone interested in learning more about American history. I searched for microfracture surgery and didn't come up with any results so I changed my search to arthroscopy. This search provided me with easy to read and understand information from the "Gale Encyclopedia of Medicine". I also did a search for Harper Lee. If I were a student writing a paper analyzing "To Kill a Mockingbird", it would almost feel like cheating with the amount of information available. Some topics under the "events in history at the time the novel takes place" were agricultural and economic background, sexual taboos, mob violence, small town life, etc. Another great place to find info.
