Proquest

1. I started my search by typing "Les Miserables" and "Victor Hugo" in the search box. This gave me 492 results. Then, I chose to narrow my results by subject.  I selected to include literary criticism, and this gave me 29 results. This is a manageable number of results to browse through. You can also select to order the results by publication dates with the most recent first. I also like how the search terms are highlighted in the text so you can easily browse through your results to see if it is what you were looking for.

2. For this search, I went to advanced search and entered "hurricane Sandy" and library or libraries and impact. This gave me 50 results which I then sorted by publication date with most recent first. By scanning the titles of the first few results, I could tell that they were not what I was looking for so I went back and kept the results sorted by relevance and changed the publication date to January 2013 - February 2013. I found an article from the January 1st issue of Library Journal - "NYU Medical Library Still Recovering from Sandy".

  1. Great results, librena!! Some of the results for #2 may have dealt with libraries as shelters and community centers in stricken places, and articles about grants available for non-profits, including libraries. These, too, are impacts. These questions are stumping a lot of folks, so give yourself a pat on the back! :)
